Mactan Resorts Day Use Pass – Mövenpick Beach Hotel, Cebu-Philippines

Exit45 Travels Disclaimer

Did you know you can get Mactan resorts day use passes even if you aren’t staying in one of their hotels?  We didn’t, but we sure were glad we found out about them….

When we flew into Cebu, we had medical appointments booked which meant we needed to stay in the city for a week. By Day 4, we had seen most of what was on offer in Cebu city, and we were looking for something else of interest to do, preferably near the water. Whilst reading through the Cebu forum on TripAdvisor, we stumbled upon Mactan resorts day use passes.

There are quite a few Mactan resorts day use passes on offer, however, we chose to try the Mövenpick Beach Hotel day pass. And this is what we thought…..

UPDATE: Due to Covid-19, Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu has temporarily suspended all operations effective 31 August 2020. This temporary closure also gives way for the completion of repairs following the devastating effects caused by Typhoon Odette last December, 16, 2021.

Mövenpick Day Use Pass – Our Experience

Resort Facilities

The staff in general were friendly, attentive and warm. They were happy to chat and they checked in with us regularly to see if we needed more drinks, more ice for our drinks, and fresh beach towels.

The hotel facilities were pristine and what you would expect of a 5-star resort. The free-form swimming pool was perfect for a refreshing dip. The private white sand beach felt like we were in the Mediterranean. We snorkelled for hours and was surprised at the expansive marine life we saw.

We relaxed in our own private cabana in the lush tropical gardens whilst watching others avail themselves of the myriad of water sports on offer (at an additional cost).

A fully-equipped gym with cardiovascular and resistance machines was available for use as was a steam room. It was well laid out and virtually empty of other people when we popped in to have a look. Whilst a gym session was not of interest to us, we did play a couple of competitive games of table tennis and pool against each other.

As we arrived, a group of people were buying a day pass. They had obviously checked out of another hotel and were spending the day at Mövenpick until their flight departed. Staff offered to check their suitcases at the reception and gave them a locker in the sauna room for their smaller bags. In addition, shower facilities were available to them to freshen up prior to their flight. . The Mövenpick Beach Hotel is only 6km from the Mactan International Airport making it a convenient option for a day pass.

The Sails Restaurant

Our included buffet lunch was at The Sails restaurant. The restaurant featured live cooking stations, a fresh salad bar, an interactive pizza kitchen and a huge array of delectable desserts. The cuisine offered catered to all palates and it was a feast of flavours from the East and West.

Ibiza Beach Club

The Ibiza Beach Club is located at the end of the Mövenpick marina, and is dubbed as the hippest dining and entertainment venue in Mactan, Cebu. They have a happy hour from 4:00pm until 6:00pm daily and the Mojitos were nothing short of spectacular. We spent our afternoon and early evening enjoying drinks under the stars while watching a live performance by a Latin band. The stunning architecture and spectacular ocean views made Ibiza the perfect way for us to end a very special day.

What is a Day Use Pass?

Day use passes are ideal for those of us who love the amenities of a 4+ star resort but don’t have the budget to stay in one overnight. There are a number of popular resort destinations around Cebu, in particular Mactan Island resorts, offering day passes. In general, day passes allow you to use all of the resorts facilities (excluding a room).  You can use the pools, amenities, restaurants, private beaches, and most other resort facilities on site.

Using a resort day pass is also a great idea if you have a substantial time delay between hotel check-out and your departure flight from Cebu airport.  What better way to spend your time than enjoying the facilities of a resort.

In Summary: Mactan Resorts Day Use Pass

While the cost for the day was far more than we would normally spend, especially when we are travelling in the Philippines, it was worth every cent. We found the prices at the Mövenpick to be competitive with other international hotels in the area. The buffet lunch alone was what we would expect to pay in Australia and the standard provided at the Mövenpick would be far superior.

Next time we fly to Cebu, we will ‘treat’ ourselves to another Mövenpick day use pass.  We loved it and highly recommend it as an option for a day out!
